Landmark Forum in Singapore
Jun 7, 8, 9, 11, 2013 - Aug 2, 3, 4, 6, 2013

Landmark Singapore:
A house filled with peace, love, fun and laughter.

Thanabalan Bala Ladamuthu

What I love about the Landmark Forum is that it is so simple yet effective. I do not need to have a Phd in psychology to be clear of what stops me in life, what inspires me and where I am least effective and why. In other words, I am able to distinguish for myself who I am being in life, whether at work, home or play. And I also love that the Landmark Forum works for successful people like myself where it has caused me to look beyond what I have achieved and avoid complacency.

My wife Sheela and I had a great relationship since our marriage in 1996. However, before the Landmark Forum every time we had a disagreement or argument, I felt she was imposing or trying to dominate me with her points of view. I then went silent and it followed that disagreement or argument would persist.

After I did the Landmark Forum, I could see for myself that my silence was how I - and not her – was dominating everything. At the Landmark Forum, I saw that I got the choice to go silent or listen to my wife and resolve the underlying issue. So now as a result we argue less and the arguments do not persist. There is more peace and love in our relationship.

I have three young daughters. When they were born, I told myself I would be a great dad and bring them up with love and care without resorting to punishment unless absolutely necessary. But there was still stress when the girls did naughty things and I got worked up.

After the Landmark Forum, I realized that I was feeling the stress because every time the girls did something naughty, as little children always do, I was fearful of a future where these girls would continue to be naughty and I would be labeled a bad father. I had the focus on me rather than them.

Now, once I turned the attention to the children rather than me, whenever they do naughty things, I get less and less upset and I engage with them more lovingly. I have stopped trying to live my life through them. And I have noticed that the girls listen to me more and there is more fun and laughter in the house.

The way this education makes such a difference in my life and in so many people’s life is what I found truly inspiring. It inspires me is that these breakthroughs are available to everyone regardless of their race, language or religion. It works for older as well as younger adults. I have seen and experienced that in myself, my wife, friends as well as strangers I meet who have attended the Landmark Forum.

I have always wanted to contribute but was always looking and waiting. I was looking for the most noble cause and waiting for a time when I would not be busy to give my time more freely. Fortunately after I did the Landmark Forum there was the Assisting and Leadership Program to express this urge to make a difference to people, and to do it now and within my busy schedule.

It is a profound privilege and gives me immense satisfaction to be part of the community of very special people at the Landmark in Singapore and Asia. I am truly excited for the future we generate for each of us and for the rest of our world.

If I were to wish for anything, I should not wish for wealth and power, but for a passionate sense of what might be, for the eye, which ever young and ardent sees the possible. Pleasure disappoints, possibility never. And what wine is so sparkling, what so fragrant, what so intoxicating as possibility! Søren Kierkegaard.
