Landmark Forum in Manila, the Philippines.
Mar 19, 20, 21, 23, 2010

The Third Landmark Forum in Manila, January 2003.

Ed Bañaga

Rose Pereira and Ed Bañaga at The Third Landmark Forum in Manila. The third Landmark Forum took place in Manila on January 31, February 1,2, and 4, 2003 and was the best so far. It was smooth-sailing for the most part with just a bit of minor breakdowns here and there. It was an awesome experience for us all on the Production Team. I was so proud of our team and I was deeply touched by the difference they made. Now I understood what a privilege it was for me having been the Production Team Leader.

Jerome Downes did an awesome job and we were so moved by his facility. Of course, he is “our” Landmark Landmark Forum Leader Jerome Downes being acknowledged by the graduates in Manila, Feb 2003. Forum Leader! This time we got very well trained in what the distinction “service” was all about; by "creating the right space, we allowed the Landmark Forum Leader to weave his magic". At the end of this Landmark Forum, 28 of the 110 participants were inspired to come on the assisting team. In contrast, we had only about 8 from the last course. Likewise, those who signed up for the Landmark Forum in Action series were about 40%-50%, when we hardly got 10% before.  We were so delighted by this response from our latest class of graduates.

Of course, by assisting at the Landmark Forum, we The room of the Third Landmark Forum in Manila at the Exportbank Plaza in Makati. were present to the most awesome part of it, the sharing. This was what "touched, moved and inspired" people.  How do I know?  My wife and sister-in-law were "hesitant" participants but clearly, Transformation had happened.  My wife was not pleased with the time I spent preparing my Production Team.  Everyday, I had to be a few hours early and go home a few hours late. Guess what?  I was told she dropped her nametag in the Assisting Team box. She wanted to assist the next time around!

We acknowledged the contribution of our Course Supervisor, Aljor Perreras. From him we got the  distinctions we needed to push our assisting to a new level of performance: Intentionality, Invisibility, Impeccability, Alacrity and the most important, Integrity. Aljor Perreras who is also our overall leader in Manila, did an awesome job this time around and added that other distinction of Landmark Assisting: Fun. We got that too.

We also got awesome support from Bjorn Martinoff of Los Angeles, CA, who was with us Landmark graduates assisting in Manila, Philippines, Feb.2003. from beginning to end. Lee Chor Pharn and David Chein from the Hong Kong Team who took time off from their work in Shanghai; as well as Jean Chu who flew in from Beijing, China. Cathy Relucio and her family from the US, who interrupted their vacation to be with us for a day. Of course, our ever reliable partner, James Rascon, who came over from his assisting with the Bangkok Team.

Aljor's Course Supervisor Assistant Team, Menchi Diokno, Jerry Perez de Tagle, Amy Obusan and Grace de Guzman were just great. Zeline de Leon, assisted by James Rascon were in charge of the Registration Fulfillment Team. On my Production Team were Evelyn Cu-Unjieng with Chiqui Break Time at the Production Room, Rose Pereira, Grace de Guzman, Cecille Entica, and Production Supervisor Ed Bañaga. Manila, Feb 2003.Veneracion, Rose Pereira, and Emma Vazsuez with Lilibeth Legasto, as  team leaders. They were a source of inspiration all the way through. Vivian Sarabia took good care of Jerome as Course Leader Support. Fr. Gregg Bañaga, Jr., was there to support us and lead the Introduction to Landmark Forum for one of the rooms on Tuesday. (He is my brother, by the way.)

We had to acknowledge, so as to complete, that between the second Landmark Forum in September 2002 and this third one in January 2003, many of us in the Assisting Team lost momentum, got back to our “business as usual”, and thought we would not make it … !

However, "we ran the race, we have finished the fight, we have kept the faith", as St. Paul wrote.  In the end, what we got from the Landmark Forum was all we needed to do the job.

In all, "our stand is our word, we are our word"

110 participants attended the third Landmark Forum in Manila, -  which we are very proud of - at At the name-tag table, Fr. Gregg Bañaga, Jr., Akiko, Grace de Guzman and Evelyn Cu-Unjieng in Manila. the hexagonal tall building, the Exportbank Plaza in Makati. On Day One we had more participants than original registrants, a pleasant surprise indeed! There were around 20-25 graduates who assisted this time.

This January 2003 class was comprised mostly of professionals from various walks of life including Greg Hart of Team Hong Kong who was a reviewer. Participation in the Landmark Forum was lively and moving. Among the class were five Malaysians, three Cecille Entica, standing by to assist at the name-tag table, Manila, Feb. 2003. Singaporeans, and six Filipinos graduates from Cebu, a southern province in the Visayas, the second largest group of islands in the Philippines.

There were 117 of our family, friends and associates who attended as our guests at the Landmark Forum Evening Session on February 4, 2003. By the end of the night, 28 of them had registered for our fourth Landmark Forum in Manila, September 19, 20, 21 and 23, 2003.

Fr. Gregg Banaga and Aljor Perreras were the Landmark Assistants in Manila at a break from their assignments, Feb. 2003. Introduction Leaders, and I was the Team Captain of Fr. Gregg.  We are all grateful to our dynamic Landmark Forum Leader, Jerome Downes, without whose commitment and leadership the Landmark Forums and our outstanding graduates community in Manila would not have prospered. Transformation is indeed on the go in the Philippines, and watch us, this is just the beginning !

If I were to wish for anything, I should not wish for wealth and power, but for a passionate sense of what might be, for the eye, which ever young and ardent sees the possible. Pleasure disappoints, possibility never. And what wine is so sparkling, what so fragrant, what so intoxicating as possibility! Søren Kierkegaard.
