I did the Landmark Forum in December 2000 at the suggestion of Denise and Mike Carruth. While I trusted their judgment and registered, I held on to the prideful notion that I pretty much knew what the Landmark Forum would be about. Only after doing the Landmark Forum did it become clear to me how many constraints I'd built into my life. I used to routinely look for what was wrong with people, situations, myself, and life in general, with the goal of fixing what was wrong. That led, predictably, to a lot of anger, frustration, self-righteousness, and loss of love and affinity. The experience of the Landmark Forum allowed me to get present to the personal cost of holding tightly to this pervasive world view. I went from "knowing" with a great deal of certainty what was so about myself and the world, to giving up that pretense. I saw that what constituted my knowledge was largely interpretation...stuff that I had made up... and not factual information. Although it sounds completely counterintuitive, especially to an analyzer like me, acknowledging that I did not know was the key to opening up possibilities that were previously unimaginable. This realization opened up a world beyond what I might call "the assessment zone," where I can accept things the way they are, including myself, which gives me a sense of calmness that was missing. No more continual struggle against the big bad world. No more beating myself up. What a relief. I have taken the Landmark Advanced Course and
both courses from the Landmark Communication Program, as well as three
seminars. The Communication Access To Power course has provided the
biggest breakthroughs of all, allowing me to see the one belief about
myself that's been influencing my behavior since I was very young. That
insight has given me a freedom I can only begin to describe with
everyday words. My thanks to Denise and Mike for introducing me to the Landmark Forum, to my two seminar leaders, Lisa McRae and Doug McVadon, to my other Landmark program leaders, and to all those who assist. Thanks to Han for his efforts on this project. November 16, 2001
