Landmark Forum and signing up for a new life.

Mary-Margaret Mayher

She thought it was something like Amway and cost too much !

I did the Landmark Forum in November, 2000. I was introduced by Sheree Simpson-Jordan, along with Shelly Leslie and Lisa Thomas. I went to an Introduction to hear about the Landmark Forum and resisted it completely. I wanted to see the course content all “laid out and structured” and I had to know what “tangible item” I would get out of taking the course. At first I thought it was something like Amway and did not trust anyone about doing it. I thought it cost too much and took too much time away from the “fun” I wanted to have.

For a month, I struggled with the question, should I do it, or not? Finally, my friend Sheree said, “What have you got to lose?" She even said she would pay for it if I got nothing from it. Wow, I thought! No one would say that if they didn't believe it would make a difference for me. What could I say at that point? I had nothing to say, no where to go, no more excuses. I signed up. Immediately, I got a sense that I signed up for new life! I didn’t know what it was then, but something new was about to happen – I just had a feeling.

I shudder to think what would have become of me if I had chosen to stay on the same old "this is as good as it gets" road of life. I was on a narrow, treacherous path leading to nowhere. The worst of it -- I wasn’t even aware that I was robbing myself and the people in my life of all that I can possibly be! Now, I do have a say on how my life goes. I see how my old ways of being resigned don't have to continue! I can cause who I am! The most lasting breakthrough I have had is to realize, that even in those moments when I do not love myself, there are others who love me, that I too can receive and give love. This new way of being has also opened up doors to a spiritual path -- knowing and loving God on a profound level and inviting Him into my life!

John, Benjamin and Thomas kayaking. John, my boyfriend, did the Landmark Forum right after me, and we both went on to do the Advanced Course together. In this course I saw that I hang onto the notion of “being saved and taken away by a knight on a white horse”…….. It was a way of being that I used in order to escape from reality, which of course, left me nowhere to go. Having seen it as "a story and nothing more" opened up a new realm of being for me. It enables me to love others for who they are, not for what they bring to me! It was a turning point in our relationship, where we both have grown individually and as a couple. It is just great.

In my past, I went from one job to the next - never quite fulfilled. When I did the Landmark Advanced Course, I got the courage to start my own business. My company offers a great service to anyone who would like to have a meeting or event at a hotel, conference center or other venue. We'll find the location, review the contract, and negotiate savings, etc. As a result, I now do what I love and I am truly delighted with my choice.

I love the Landmark Seminars as it continues to leave me with an overwhelming sense of freedom and growth every time. I love the community of Landmark Forum graduates where I can call on anyone in the community and instantly create my own transformation inside of a conversation!

Who I am is the possibility of being loving, fun and independent.

If I were to wish for anything, I should not wish for wealth and power, but for a passionate sense of what might be, for the eye, which ever young and ardent sees the possible. Pleasure disappoints, possibility never. And what wine is so sparkling, what so fragrant, what so intoxicating as possibility! Søren Kierkegaard.
